If you’re starting your first farm in Stardew Valley, it might be helpful to have a crafting guide to help you keep track of the many recipes and items you can make from those recipes.
While this indie game is focused on farming, its crafting system is simple to understand but it has massive creative potential with over 100 items you can make. Crafting items from scratch keeps you from having to spend valuable gold on everyday products like fertilizer.
These craftable items run the gamut from farming to mining to simply decorative. In this guide, we’ll take a look at all of the items you can craft in Stardew Valley, how to obtain their recipes, and the other items you’ll need to make them. There’s a lot to cover, so let’s get started.
Bottom Line Up Front
- Crafting is a core activity in the 2016 indie farming game Stardew Valley.
- There are 17 types of crafting items and 130 total crafting items.
- The most common method of obtaining crafting recipes is levelling up skills (Farming, Mining, Foraging, Fishing, and Combat).
Stardew Valley Crafting Overview
Crafting in Stardew Valley is the process of making a new item from a predetermined recipe. These recipes are gathered throughout the game as rewards from townsfolk, purchasable items from characters like Krobus and Mr. Qi, quest rewards, and by leveling up your various skills in the game. There are 17 types of crafting items in Stardew Valley:
- Artisan Equipment (8 items)
- Bombs (3 items)
- Consumables (8 items)
- Decor (13 items)
- Edibles (4 items)
- Fishing (12 items)
- Fences (5 items)
- Fertilizer (10 items)
- Furniture (4 items)
- Lighting (13 items)
- Miscellaneous (12 items)
- Refining Equipment (15 items)
- Rings (7 items)
- Seeds (8 items)
- Signs (3 signs)
- Sprinklers (3 items)
- Storage (2 items)
Each crafting category has numerous recipes to learn how to craft these items from. You begin the game with 10 crafting recipes: Gate, Wood Fence, Wood Path, Gravel Path, Cobblestone Path, Torch, Campfire, Chest, Wood Sign, and Stone Sign.
How to Craft an Item
The process of crafting an item is straightforward. Simply pause the game to open the menu (circle button on Playstation, B button on Xbox and Switch, and either ESC or E on PC), and select the hammer icon tab.
This is the crafting menu and from here you can select an item to craft if it is fully colored in. If you don’t have the recipe for an item, that item will be greyed out. Additionally, if you don’t see the item you want to craft, make sure to scroll through the complete list because as you gather more recipes, more pages will be added to the crafting menu.
Going over an item with your cursor will show the items required to make it. Items you don’t have that are necessary for the recipe will be displayed in red. If you have all of the required items, simply confirm to craft the new item.

Refer to the tables below whenever you need a quick reference for a crafting item. These tables included the item name, the required ingredients to make it, what it does, and how you get the recipe for it.
