Tapper Stardew Valley Guide

When it comes to taking care of your farm on Stardew Valley, there are many options to engage with and a lot of things that you can create! It can be hard to keep up and even harder to know where to start; if you take a particular interest in your trees, the Tapper will be an exciting and interesting item for you!

I personally neglected the Tapper for a long time until I felt comfortable and up to speed with the game, but I definitely regretted not interacting with Tappers sooner! Especially as they can help you complete items for the Community Centre bundles.

Tappers also help you to create Artisan Goods, and Mushroom trees, in particular, are helpful for anyone who particularly enjoys exploring Mines as you can create and bring Life Elixir with you to help buffer your health at difficult levels.

How to Make a Tapper

There are two types of Tappers that you can create in Stardew Valley;

Regular Tapper; This particular Tapper can be placed on Maple, Oak, or Pine Trees and requires 40x Wood, 2x Copper Bars, and foraging level three.

Heavy Tapper; This particular Tapper can also be placed on Maple, Oak, or Pine Trees but processes twice as fast as the regular Tapper and requires 30x Hardwood and 1x Radioactive Bar. In order to craft this, you will first need to unlock Qi’s Walnut Room which can be found on Ginger Island and will cost 100 Golden Walnuts to open. Once opened, you can purchase items that include the Heavy Tapper recipe for 20 Qi Gems.

How to Obtain the Required Materials

Obtaining Wood

Obtaining Wood

Wood can be obtained by cutting down trees, which you should have an abundance of on your farm! To cut trees, you need to have your Axe and strike the tree repeatedly until it falls on the ground. If you do not have a Magnet Ring that auto collects items for you, you should then walk around where you can see the Wood lying on the ground in order to pick it up, and it will then go to your inventory.

Hitting an average tree will give you anywhere between 13-17 pieces of Wood, which is also influenced by the luck that you have that day. Once the tree has fallen, there should be a stump left behind, which you can also break, which will give you anywhere between 5-7 pieces of Wood.

So collecting 40x Wood should be quick and easy! Although doing so does spend energy if you do not have some snacks to boost your energy up again or the time to quickly recharge in bed, you can also purchase Wood from Robin in the Carpenters Shop.

Obtaining Hardwood

Hardwood can be obtained by chopping down Mahogany trees that are deeper in color than other trees on your farm. To do this, you need to use your Axe on the tree until it breaks down and then collect the pieces of Wood which fall from the tree.

You can also obtain Hardwood from large stumps on your farm, but these would require a Copper Axe or stronger as they are too hard to break. Large stumps can be found in the Secret Woods and will appear there daily in order to provide a continuous supply of Hardwood and will give you 12 pieces of Hardwood a day.

Copper Bars

Copper Bars

In order to make Copper Bars, you first need Copper Ore. Copper Ore can be obtained by breaking up Copper Nodes in the Mines using your Pickaxe. Copper Nodes look like stones, but they have pieces poking out of them that is Copper in color. Once you have Copper Ore, you can place this inside a Furnace with Coal in order to smelt this and create a Copper Bar.

If you need to create a Furnace, you can do so once you have 25x Stones and 20x Copper Ore. You will receive the recipe for the Furnace from Clint in a cutscene once you mine one Copper Ore. Once you have your Furnace, you need one piece of Coal and five pieces of Copper Ore in your inventory to place inside the Furnace in order to create one Copper Bar. Smelting one Copper Bar takes 30 in-game minutes.

Radioactive Bars

Radioactive Bars can be created in a similar way to Copper Bars as both are smelted inside the Furnace. In order to create a Radioactive Bar, you first need Radioactive Ore. Radioactive Ore can be found in the Mines or the Skull Cavern in the Desert. Radioactive Ore is not easily missed as it is neon green in color and very eye-catching.

Similar to Copper, you require five Radioactive Ore and one piece of Coal in order to smelt one Radioactive Bar.

How to use the Tapper

Tapper

You can place a Tapper on a Tree by first placing it within your personal inventory, then you need to approach the Tree that you would like to place it on, select the Tapper and then select the Tree! If you then need to remove the Tapper you can hit it with your Axe and it will return to your inventory! When your Tapper has created produce, a bubble will appear above it which shows that items can be collected.

If however your Tapper is struck by Lightning or by a Bomb, it will be destroyed and you will not be able to salvage it or its produce.

FAQs

Question: How do I get Maple Syrup?

Answer: You can get Maple Syrup by placing a Tapper on a Maple tree and collecting it after nine days. Once you collect the Maple Syrup, this can be gifted to other townspeople, consumed, or used to create a Maple Bar or a Bee House.

Question: How many Tappers can I use?

Answer: You can craft as many Tappers as you like. However, it bears remembering that each tree can only have one Tapper attached, so I would recommend creating enough Tappers as trees you have on your farm.

Question: Is there a limit to how many Tappers I can use?

Answer: You can only place one Tapper on each Tree, however, there is no limit as to how many Trees you can place Tappers on, this includes Trees outside of your Farm.

Tapper Stardew Valley Guide: Summary

It is a great strategy to create multiple Tappers and place them on all the trees on your farm; this allows them to process in the background while you go about your day-to-day tasks!

You can then easily collect the product and either sell it onward, gift it to other characters or use it in order to create other items which you may want! This is an easy way to have a steady stream of income to assist your life on the farm.
