Albacore Stardew Valley Guide

Bottom Line Up Front

Albacore is an Ocean fish that can be found in Fall and Winter between 6 am and 11 am and again between 6 pm and 2 am, although adding Magic Bait to your fishing rod means that you can catch an Albacore in any weather, at any time and in any season.

If you struggle to catch an Albacore you can purchase one from Krobus on Wednesdays (although this is not guaranteed) and again from the Travelling Cart on Fridays and Sundays. Albacore does not make a good gift but can be used to create

How to Obtain the Albacore

Foraging

One of the most exciting things about Stardew Valley (in my opinion at least) is the rummaging. Once per day you can rummage in every bin in Pelican Town, in which you can find anything. Sometimes you get rubbish (literally) or broken CDs while other times I have found a Diamond and even a Squid.

While this is one of the most exciting things about the game, it is also the most unreliable, because of its sporadic nature there is no guarantee of what you will receive. Some days you seem to get a lot of good things, and some days you can get all rubbish!

The most enticing part of rummaging however is that eventually, the bin lid comes off and you can keep it and wear it as a very fashionable hat, an option I always take and even wore to my wedding within the game.

Fishing

Albacore is an Ocean fish, that can be found during Fall and Winter. Albacore can only be found between 6 am and 11 am and again between 6 pm and 2 am. Albacore has a difficulty rating of 60 and has a mixed behavior pattern, this means that it has a basic pattern of movement and so is relatively easy to catch.

If you have trouble organizing your fishing around the restrictions of the Albacore (you know how quickly time seems to fly in Stardew Valley, especially if you are engrossed in other tasks) you can always use Magic Bait.

Magic Bait can be attached to a Fibreglass or Iridium Rod (both of which can be found in Willys Shop) and when Magic Bait is attached to your Rod it means that Albacore can be caught in any weather, in any season, and at any time! (Although the Albacore can still only be found in the Ocean)

Purchasing

While the Albacore cannot be purchased in Willy’s shop or even Pierre’s General Store, it can on occasion be found in Krobus’ Shop. If you have yet to meet Krobus he is a friendly (and somewhat adorable) monster who lives in the sewers found just North of the Beach and West of the Stardrop Saloon.

You can purchase items from Krobus as he runs his shop, where there is a chance of being able to purchase Albacore on Wednesdays for 200g.

You can also potentially purchase Albacore from the Travelling Cart which visits Pelican Town on Fridays and Sundays. The Travelling Cart can be found West of Marnie’s Ranch. The cons of the Travelling Cart is that none of the items are guaranteed at certain times, as it carries a small stock.

The other con is that the items in the Travelling Cart are very expensive and you can expect to pay anywhere between 225 and 1000g.

Uses of the Albacore

Albacore in recipes

Albacore can be used to craft recipe items that can be crafted with any fish, and are not specific to Albacore.

Sashimi

This culinary dish can be created using any fish, and in this case would require one Albacore. To create the recipe you first need to have a good relationship with Linus (and why wouldn’t you, he’s the sweetest character in the whole town!) Once your relationship with Linus reached three hearts he will send you the recipe in the Mail!

The Sashimi can then be consumed which will provide you with 75 energy points and 33 health points. This makes it a good dish to take to the Mines or as an energy reserve when you have lots of tiring things you want to do in one day! Such as fishing or farming.

If for any reason you do not want to eat the Sashimi you can sell it although it only sells for 75g and so does not provide a great financial benefit.

Maki Roll

Maki Roll is another culinary dish that can be created using 1x Albacore, 1x Seaweed, and 1x Rice. Once the dish is ready it can be eaten and will provide you with an energy boost of 100 points and a health boost of 45 points. Similar to Sashimi this makes it a good dish to keep a supply of if you have a lot you want to achieve in one day and you run out of energy or if you find yourself under attack at the Mines and need a health boost.

If you want to make the Maki Roll you should watch the TV in your room on the farm on the 21st of Summer during your first year, specifically, the Queen Of the Sauce channel as this channel teaches you new recipes!

Alternatively, if you miss this day or do not want to wait this long you can also buy this recipe from the Stardrop Saloon for 300g. If you have no use of Maki Roll and want to sell it you can earn 220g from this.

Quality Fertilizer

If you want to increase your chances of farming some quality crops you should invest in some Quality Fertilizer. Once this is created you should apply the Quality Fertilizer to tilled soil before planting of Crops to have a higher chance of getting silver, gold, or iridium quality crops.

To create this you will need 1x Albacore and 2x Sap. If you want this recipe you need to focus on planting and harvesting goods as you first much reach farming level nine and then you will learn this recipe.

If for any reason you did not want to use this item you can sell it for 10g, this is not a good profit if you compare it to the potential returns of selling a silver or gold crop.

Albacore as a gift

The Albacore is not a great gift for the villagers of Stardew Valley, while Demetrius, Elliot, Leo, Linus, Willy, Sebastian, and Pam are neutral to the Albacore and will accept it as a gift, they do not love it! No one in the village loves Albacore, the majority of residents dislike Albacore and Haley, Pierre and Evelyn hate Albacore.

Gifting the Albacore to those who are neutral to it is possible, but not as effective in building your relationship with them as a gift that the individual likes or even loves.

Albacore and the Community Centre

the community centre

Albacore is not needed in any of the Bundles within the Community Centre.

Albacore and Quests

Albacore is needed for various Quests within the game such as ;

  • The ”Fish Stew” Quest; In this Quest, Gus requests one Albacore by sending you a letter which states that he needs the Albacore by the 26th of Winter. Completing this Quest provides 400g and one friendship heart between you and Gus!
  • Help Wanted; At times there may be a request at the Help Wanted Board outside Pierre’s General Store, this request can be made by Willy who can request 1-4 Albacore. Completing this Quest would provide 75g per Albacore and you get to keep the fish you catch!
  • Aquatic Overpopulation; Demetrius requests 10 Albacore on the Special Orders Board outside the Mayor’s house, this occurs during Fall and rewards you with the standard monetary value of the Albacore as well as the recipe for the Farm Computer.

Albacore and crafting

The Albacore can be used in the sewing machine to create a Sailor’s Shirt if you want to look like a fashionable sea-faring farmer that is! This fashionable edge is the only advantage of the Sailor’s Shirt, however, and offers no buff or strategic advantage.

While I don’t tend to explore the crafting avenue of the game, it can be super fun and exciting if customization is a big draw for you!
