Bream Stardew Valley Guide

Latest posts by Ella Walsh (see all)

Catching fish is a complex and often confusing and overwhelming skill path in Stardew Valley; there is so much to consider! Between the Fish types, the season, weather, and even time limitations which vary for each Fish can be mind-blowing!

Often the easiest introduction to fishing is to explore what is needed to finish the Community Centre Fish Tank, and start from there in terms of the different locations you can find them and each of their requirements for catching!

This would include Bream fish as it is needed for the Nighttime Fishing Bundle in the Community Centre, so if you are eager to complete the Community Centre, don’t worry, I have you covered with this Bream Stardew Valley Guide!

Bottom Line Up Front

Bream is a nocturnal river-dwelling fish caught between 6 pm, and 2 am in the River in Pelican Town or the Cindersap Forest pond. These can be caught in any season or weather and are not hard to catch as they have a difficulty rating of 35 points. If you want to catch Bream fish at any time of the day, you can add Magic Bait to your fishing rod.

Once you have Bream, you can donate one to the Night-Time Fishing Bundle in the Fish Tank at the Community Centre, and you can also use these to create Maki Rolls, Baked Fish, Sashimi, or Quality Fertilizer. Breams do not make great gifts as they are not liked or loved by any of the townspeople; breams are also not needed for any Quests but can be placed into your Pond to reproduce every two days.

How to obtain Bream

Fishing

Bream are a River Dwelling and nocturnal Fish that can only be caught between the hours of 6 pm and 2 am. Bream can also be caught in any season, in any weather. It has a difficulty rating of 35 points and can be caught regardless of fishing level, therefore should not be too hard for you to catch as they require little fishing skill.

If, however you chose to use Magic Bait, this means that you can catch a Bream at any time of the day, not just between 6 pm and 2 am! Magic Bait can be purchased from QI’s Walnut Room if you want to use these; they are single-use and should be attached to your fishing rod before you try and catch the Fish.

You cannot use a training fishing rod but can purchase more advanced rods such as a fiberglass rod from Willy’s fish shop.

Purchase

Bream can not be purchased from Pierres General Store but can sometimes be found in the Travelling Cart, which visits Pelican Town on Fridays and Sundays. The shop appears west of Marnie’s Ranch and closes at 8 pm on the days that it visits; items here are very expensive, however, and not always guaranteed!

Looting

There is always the chance of finding a Bream in the bins along with the Town, once a day, you can rummage through each bin in the Town and have the chance of finding pretty much anything there (I once got the Bin lid as a reward which you can wear as a very fashionable hat).

Although the chances of finding a Bream when you need one are very rare, so I would not rely on this method of sourcing a Bream if you are eager or working toward a deadline!

Uses for Bream

In recipes

Bream can be used to create any of the following dishes;

Baked Fish

To create this, you will need 1x Sunfish, 1x Bream, and 1x Wheat Flour. Consuming the Baked Fish will provide you with 75 energy points and 33 health points.

To create this, however, you will first need to obtain the recipe by watching the Queen Of Sauce TV channel on the TV within your home on the 7th of Summer. If, however, you do not want to consume the dish, you can also sell this onward for 100g. These make a great gift and can be gifted to anyone other than Krobus and Leo.

Maki Roll

To create this, you will need 1x Fish, 1x Seaweed, and 1x Rice. Consuming the Maki Roll will provide you with 100 energy points and 45 health points. To create this, however, you will need the recipe, which can be obtained either by spending 300g to purchase this within the Stardrop Saloon or by watching the Queen Of Sauce TV channel on the TV within your home on the 21st of Summer.

If you want to sell the Maki Roll, you can earn 220g for selling it. These can also be gifted to anyone but Krobus, Leo, Emily, and Evelyn.

Sashimi

To create this, you will need 1x Fish. Consuming the Sashimi will provide you with 75 energy points and 33 health points. Alternatively, you can sell the Sashimi for 75g; to create the Sashimi, you need the recipe which you can get from Linus once you reach three hearts in your relationship with him. These can be gifted to anyone other than Krobus, Leo, Emily, Evelyn, and Kent.

Quality Fertilizer

To create this, you will need 2x Sap and 1x Fish. This can then be applied to tilled soil to increase your chances of producing quality Crops. To create this, however, you first need to reach Farming level nine; if you do not want to use this, you can sell the Quality Fertilizer for 10g. This is not a good gift for anyone in the village.

As gifts

The Bream can make be used as a gift for some of the residents in Stardew Valley. However, the Bream is not liked or loved by any of the members of the Town; in fact, some of them even hate it. The Bream is most tolerated (neutral) by Elliot, Leo, Linus, Pam, Sebastian, Willy, and Demetrius.

The Bream is not a great gift if you are keen to progress your relationships, platonically or otherwise, as gifting someone an item that they are neutral to is not as effective as gifting them something they like or love. However, if you have some spare Bream lying around, it does not harm to gift these onward!

Bundles

Bream can be donated to the Community Centre within the Night Fishing Bundle in the Fish Tank. You will also need to donate 1x Walleye and 1x Eel.

Once this Bundle is complete, you will be rewarded with a 1x Small Glow Ring, which can help improve your vision when you are exploring, fishing, farming, or even mining at night by emitting a circle of light around you! Completing all Bundles within the Fish Tank rewards you by removing the Glittering Boulder near the Mines, which allows you to pan from the water to get metal ore and other items.

Quests

While Bream are not required for any story or progression-based Quests, they may occasionally be requested in the Help Wanted Board outside Pierre’s General Store. Completing that delivery will reward you with 135g and 150 Friendship points between you and whoever requested the Bream.

Tailoring

Bream can be used in the Sewing Machine to create the Fish Shirt; this offers no statistic or strategic advantage and is simply a fashion choice!

Fish Pond

If you want to harvest a lot of Bream, once you have captured one, you can place it within the fish pond on your Farm. Once this is placed, they will reproduce every two days, and the output can then be used to either gift, create or consume! This can make for a steady source of income if you plan on regularly selling these Bream (especially if they are higher quality than a base level)

Selling

Bream can be sold for 45g at a base level, 56g at a silver level, 67g at a gold level, and 90g at an iridium level.

Bream Stardew Valley: Summary

If you are eager to catch Bream, you should ensure you have energy late in the day as these can only be caught between 6 pm and 2 am, in the River within the Town and the Cindersap Forest. The best use of Bream, at least initially, is to donate it to the community center.

After this, the best thing to do is to either create dishes which you can consume for more health or energy for mining or fishing! These can also be gifted. However, they do not make great gifts as they are only tolerated by Elliot, Leo, Linus, Pam, Sebastian, Willy, and Demetrius!

If for any reason you are having difficulty catching the Bream, these can be purchased from the Travelling Cart; however, they are very expensive!
